Noom vs MyFitnessPal

By Eric Parker, founder of TrueCal. Updated October 1, 2026.

Noom Weight starts your morning with a few minutes of lessons, asks you to log food in green, yellow and orange categories, and includes a weekly coach check-in. Its 12-month plan costs $209 paid upfront. MyFitnessPal gives you a free database search to record what you eat. Premium costs $79.99 a year and adds barcode scan, meal scan and voice log.

Your day in Noom Weight

Set aside 5 to 15 minutes each morning for psychology-focused lessons. Topics include sleep, stress management and self-care.

Enter everything you eat in the food logger. It groups foods by calorie density using green, yellow and orange, while you track intake within a calorie range. No food is off limits.

Expect your coach to check in weekly, or more often if you prefer. You can send the coach an in-app message at any time. The program also includes a community and step goals, with a pedometer that starts people new to exercise at 200 steps a day.

Your day in MyFitnessPal

Open the home screen and search for a food to add to your log. The free database covers over 18 million global foods, from fresh ingredients and packaged products to restaurant items and your own saved foods and recipes.

After recording foods and meals, you can inspect the nutritional breakdown for a single food, a meal, a whole day or a week.

With Premium, point the camera at food or a barcode, or describe a meal aloud and tap to log it. Premium also offers custom macro goals, ad-free logging and multi-day logging for the same food across up to 7 days.

The annual bill and the monthly choice

Noom Weight charges $209 upfront for its annual plan. Its monthly plan is $70, and its 4-month plan is $169 upfront. All plans renew automatically, and Noom says you can cancel at any time.

MyFitnessPal Premium is $79.99 for a year or $19.99 for a month and renews automatically unless cancelled. You can also use MyFitnessPal with a free account.

Noom Weight offers a 7-day or 14-day trial. For the 7-day trial, you choose a price you think is reasonable. When the trial ends, you are charged for your selected plan. MyFitnessPal offers a 7-day free Premium trial if you have never had Premium or its trial.

Noom also sells Noom Med and other medication plans, which this page leaves out.
