MyFitnessPal vs Weight Watchers, one plate counted two ways

By Eric Parker, founder of TrueCal. Updated October 2, 2026.

MyFitnessPal counts calories and macros, and Premium costs $79.99 a year. WeightWatchers uses its own equation to count Points and says members do not need to count calories. Its Core plan starts at $12 a month with a 12-month commitment.

Chicken, rice and broccoli in calories and grams

Take a plate of 100 g roasted skinless chicken breast, 100 g cooked brown rice and 100 g boiled broccoli. These are USDA values per 100 g, checked October 2, 2026.

These figures are not MyFitnessPal database entries. Its food database is built by its community. A check mark identifies an entry MyFitnessPal reviewed or added and considers accurate and complete. Checked entries can still have mistakes, and entries without a check mark are not always wrong.

Which parts of the plate are ZeroPoint foods

Skinless chicken breast and broccoli appear on the WeightWatchers Core Program ZeroPoint list. WeightWatchers gives ZeroPoint foods 0 Points. Adding oil, butter, dressing or sauce with a Points value changes that.

Brown rice is absent from that list. WeightWatchers publishes no Points value for brown rice on its site, so this page gives none.

The Points equation is not public. This page does not estimate it.

WeightWatchers publishes more than one ZeroPoint list. This comparison uses the Core Program list.

What goes into a Points allowance

Fiber, protein and unsaturated fat bring Points down. Saturated fat and added sugars raise them. Calories are part of the equation too.

WeightWatchers sets a Daily Points Budget using age, height, weight, sex assigned at birth and whether the member wants to lose or maintain weight. Weekly Points provide extra Points for the week after Daily Points are used.

For tracked foods, the WeightWatchers app also shows protein, carbs and fat.

The prices attached to a year of membership

MyFitnessPal Premium costs $79.99 a year or $19.99 a month. Its 7-day free trial is available if you have never had Premium or a Premium trial.

MyFitnessPal offers Free, Premium and Premium+. A Premium+ price is not published on its Premium page.

WeightWatchers Core starts at $12 a month on a 12-month plan. It renews for another 12 months unless canceled. The standard monthly fee is $24. New members can take a 30-day free digital trial, followed by $24 a month.

Core+ adds more live coaching and Workshops. WeightWatchers says Workshop memberships start at about $45 a month.

This page leaves out WeightWatchers Clinic and every medication plan.
