How many calories does Pilates burn in 50 or 60 minutes?
At 150 pounds, code 02103, Pilates, traditional, mat, gives about 102 calories for 50 minutes and 122 for 60 minutes. Code 02105, Pilates, general, gives 159 and 191. Code 02107, Pound, combination of Pilates and body movements with drumming, gives 482 and 578.
The conditioning exercise list in the 2024 Compendium, checked October 14, 2026, names Pilates in exactly these three entries. The table includes every description on that page that names Pilates.
| Code | Description | MET | How the Compendium marks the value |
|---|---|---|---|
| 02103 | Pilates, traditional, mat | 1.8 | Supported with published literature |
| 02105 | Pilates, general | 2.8 | Supported with published literature |
| 02107 | Pound, combination of Pilates and body movements with drumming | 8.5 | Supported with published literature |
Code 02105 is 1.0 MET above 02103. Code 02107 uses the name Pound for a combination of Pilates with body movements and drumming. None of their descriptions names a reformer, a machine, a class length or a level. The Compendium page gives no definitions for traditional, general or Pound.
The units behind the mat class total
The formula is calories equals MET times body weight in kilograms times hours. Its units come from the Compendium definition of MET, checked October 14, 2026. That page defines 1 MET as 1 kilocalorie per kilogram per hour.
Divide a weight in pounds by 2.2046 to get kilograms, and divide the minutes by 60 to get hours. For the mat example, 150 pounds is 68.04 kilograms and 50 minutes is 0.8333 hours. The arithmetic is 1.8 times 68.04 times 0.8333, giving 102.06, which rounds to 102 calories.
To separate an activity's total into its active and resting parts, use the active versus total calories calculator.
Mat, general and Pound totals at five body weights
The five column weights, 125, 150, 175, 200 and 225 pounds, equal 56.7, 68.0, 79.4, 90.7 and 102.1 kilograms.
| Minutes | 125 lb | 150 lb | 175 lb | 200 lb | 225 lb |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 30 | 51 | 61 | 71 | 82 | 92 |
| 45 | 77 | 92 | 107 | 122 | 138 |
| 50 | 85 | 102 | 119 | 136 | 153 |
| 60 | 102 | 122 | 143 | 163 | 184 |
| Minutes | 125 lb | 150 lb | 175 lb | 200 lb | 225 lb |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 30 | 79 | 95 | 111 | 127 | 143 |
| 45 | 119 | 143 | 167 | 191 | 214 |
| 50 | 132 | 159 | 185 | 212 | 238 |
| 60 | 159 | 191 | 222 | 254 | 286 |
| Minutes | 125 lb | 150 lb | 175 lb | 200 lb | 225 lb |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 30 | 241 | 289 | 337 | 386 | 434 |
| 45 | 361 | 434 | 506 | 578 | 651 |
| 50 | 402 | 482 | 562 | 643 | 723 |
| 60 | 482 | 578 | 675 | 771 | 868 |
Among these 60 cells, the smallest result is 51 calories for 02103 over 30 minutes at 125 pounds. The largest is 868 for 02107 over 60 minutes at 225 pounds. Holding the weight at 150 pounds gives 50 minute totals of 102, 159 and 482 for 02103, 02105 and 02107. Their 60 minute totals are 122, 191 and 578.
Within a single entry, the calorie number rises in step with both minutes and body weight. Each cell is rounded separately. For 02103 at 150 pounds, 30 and 60 minutes give 61 and 122 calories. At 200 pounds, those times give 82 and 163, so the displayed cells do not always scale exactly.
Where is reformer Pilates in the Compendium?
The Compendium has no entry for reformer Pilates. There is none on the conditioning exercise page, and no page in the Compendium names a reformer, checked October 14, 2026.
If you think a listed description fits your reformer class, you can choose that entry in the calculator, such as 02105, Pilates, general. That choice returns the listed entry's number, not a measured reformer value.
Gym machines with their own Compendium entries include the stair climber, rowing machine and elliptical trainer.
Barre also has no Compendium entry, so this page gives no barre number.

Individual precision is outside the stated purpose
These are the Compendium's statements on its corrected METs page, checked October 14, 2026.
The Compendium was not developed to determine the precise energy cost of activities within an individual.
However, the Compendium is frequently used outside of its original scope.
It does not correct the MET levels for age, body mass, and sex.
