What we write back, with your permission

  • calories, protein, carbohydrates, fat, fiber, sugar, sodium and caffeine from the meals you log

We store synced data with your account to show your weight trend and to calculate your energy use and calorie targets.

We don't use Apple Health or Health Connect data for advertising or marketing, we don't sell it, and we don't share it with third parties for advertising, marketing or data mining. We use it only to provide TrueCal's health and fitness features. We don't store Apple Health data in iCloud.

You can turn off access at any time. On iPhone, open the Health app, then Sharing, then Apps, then TrueCal. On Android, open Health Connect app permissions. Data we already wrote to Apple Health or Health Connect stays there until you delete it.

4. AI processing and food lookups

TrueCal uses AI to estimate nutrition. When you log a meal, what you type or say and any photo you attach is sent to OpenAI to create the estimate. Meal descriptions may also be sent to TypeSafe, which helps match foods to nutrition sources. To find nutrition facts, our servers may send food names, brands, barcodes and search terms to nutrition databases and search services, including USDA FoodData Central, Open Food Facts, FatSecret, Serper and Jina. We don't include your name, email address or account ID in these lookups.

Under OpenAI's API terms, OpenAI does not use our API requests to train its models by default, and we have not opted in to training. AI providers may keep request data for a limited time for abuse and safety monitoring.

If you ask TrueCal about your progress, the request can include relevant parts of your log, such as your weight trend or synced health data, to answer you.

Nutrition estimates can be wrong. They are not medical or laboratory measurements.

5. Advertising and ad measurement

There are no ads inside TrueCal. We advertise TrueCal on other services, and our apps include software development kits from advertising partners such as Meta to measure how those ads perform.

Through this software, advertising partners may receive device and advertising identifiers, IP address, basic device and app information, and events such as app installs, app opens, sign-ups and in-app purchases, including the product and price. They may combine this with other information they have and use it to measure and improve ads, under their own privacy policies. We don't send them your name, email address, food logs, photos, voice recordings, nutrition data, body measurements or health data.

On iPhone, the advertising identifier and the sign-up event are shared only if you choose Allow in Apple's tracking prompt. You can change this at any time in Settings, then Privacy and Security, then Tracking. On Android, you can reset or delete your advertising ID in your device settings.

Our website uses Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site.

Under some state privacy laws, sharing identifiers and events with advertising partners for ad measurement may count as selling or sharing personal information, or as targeted advertising. Section 9 explains how to opt out.

6. How we share information

We share information with

  • Service providers that process information for us, including Google Cloud for hosting and storage, Google Firebase for crash reporting and push notifications, Apple for push notifications, Mailjet for email, Stripe and RevenueCat for payments and subscriptions, OpenAI and TypeSafe for AI processing, and the nutrition databases and search services listed in section 4.
  • Apple and Google, when you sign in with them, buy through their stores, or use their health platforms.
  • Advertising partners, as described in section 5.
  • Our team's internal tools, such as Slack, which receive account IDs and support messages so we can help you and run TrueCal.
  • Others when required by law, to protect the rights, safety or property of TrueCal, our users or others, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing or sale of all or part of our business.
  • Others when you ask us to or agree to it.

We don't sell your personal data for money, and we don't share Apple Health or Health Connect data for advertising.

7. Retention and deletion

We keep information for as long as your account is open and as long as we need it for the purposes in this policy, including legal, tax, accounting, security and fraud prevention needs.

You can delete your account in Settings. When you do, we deactivate it right away and delete your account data, food log and synced health data from our active systems. We keep limited records where we need them, such as subscription and payment records and security logs. Copies in backups are removed on the backup system's normal schedule.

8. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, including encryption in transit and at rest, and we limit access to people who need it. No system is completely secure, and we can't guarantee the security of your information.

9. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or get a copy of your personal information, to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information or targeted advertising, to limit the use of sensitive information, and to appeal our decision on a request. To make a request, email privacy@truecal.com. We may need to verify your identity. We respond within the time the law requires. We won't discriminate against you for using these rights.
